Day 1: We are off for the charming Carolina’s. We’ll enjoy the spring splendors of the Outer Banks consisting of a string of narrow islands that lie between the ocean and the sounds. The islands have developed a distinctive culture, through years of storms and shipwrecks. We’ll see many of the major attractions along the coastline of North and South Carolina. Our first night’s accommodations are in St. Louis (Breakfast included). Day 2: After breakfast we’re on our way to Nashville to visit The Hermitage; the home of Andrew Jackson. The mansion is maintained with many original furnishings. Included is nearly all of President and Mrs. Jackson’s personal effects. The estate also has an early 19th century garden. Andrew Jackson died at the home in 1845 and was buried in a section of the garden. We’ll be near Nashville for the night (Breakfast included). Day 3: From Nashville we’ll continue traveling east through Knoxville, skirting the Smoky Mountains to Asheville, North Carolina. In Asheville we visit the famous Biltmore Estate, built at the end of the 19th century by George Washington Vanderbilt. You’ll be amazed by this 250 room estate. We’ll be in Asheville for the night (Breakfast included). Day 4: Today we’ll continue east through the center of North Carolina to Greenville where we’ll spend the night (Breakfast included). Day 5: A short drive this morning and we arrive at the Outer Banks. These islands along the Atlantic Ocean with their distinctive culture have everything from resorts to other areas with a relatively primitive charm. Some residents closely identify with maritime activity and still keep the speech patterns and customs of the 17th century. We’ll also visit the place where the first flight happened in 1903 at the Wright Brothers National Memorial. Kitty Hawk for the night (Breakfast included). Day 6: We’ll tour the length of the Outer Banks with a local guide. This will be a thrilling day as we visit historical lighthouses including Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Our tour will take us along the Cape Hatteras National Sea Shore. We’ll visit a lifesaving station in Rodanthe. After a leisurely noon meal stop in Ocracoke, we’ll take the mid-afternoon ferry to Cedar Island and continue to Morehead City along the coastal highway to Morehead City where we’ll spend the night (Breakfast included). Day 7: From Morehead City we continue our adventure south along the Atlantic Ocean coast to Wilmington. Included in today’s sites we’ll visit the USS North Carolina; the World War II veteran ship anchored on the Cape Fear Coast. We’ll continue south to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where we spend the next 2 nights at a beach front hotel. You will enjoy the famous white sands beach of this popular resort area. This evening we’ll be entertained at a great show. Day 8: The Myrtle Beach area is located on the 60 mile long Grand Strand. It is fast becoming a rival to Branson. This afternoon we’ll have time for shopping at Barefoot Landing. This is a waterway marketplace with more than 80 shops and restaurants. After returning to our motel we will prepare for our evening attraction at the beautiful Carolina Opry Theater! What an evening. Second night at Myrtle Beach. Day 9: This morning we’ll drive to Historic Charleston and be joined by a local guide to acquaint us with a tour of the 300 year old historic Charleston. After some shopping and a noon meal in the old city, we’ll head for Charleston and spend the night in the area. Day 10: We’ll travel west today to Atlanta, Georgia, and visit the massive dome of granite called Stone Mountain. Three colossal figures—Jefferson Davis, “Stonewall” Jackson, and Robert E.
