Day 1: This morning we’ll begin an unforgettable spring tour as we board our motorcoach and head east through Missouri, arriving in St. Louis for our first night’s stay. Day 2: After breakfast, we’ll continue on to Indianapolis. After our noon meal at the Speedway Cafeteria, we’ll visit the Indianapolis Speedway and Museum. We’ll stay the night in Columbus, Ohio. Day 3: This morning we’ll continue towards the historic east. Our first stop will be at Hershey where the largest chocolate plant in the world was started. We will take a tour through the Hershey simulated world of chocolate. We’ll arrive in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where we’ll spend three nights at the same motel. Day 4: Today we’ll spend our day in Lancaster. We will tour Amish Farmlands. We will also visit the Amish Farming Community where we will be informed as to their unique way of life. These hardworking and industrious people use no automation of any kind to work their land. Almost everything is done with horse and mule power. Meal in an Amish home is included. Day 5: We’re off to Gettysburg. We’ll tour Dwight D. Eisenhower’s Farm Home,their first and only permanent home. We’ll also have a guided tour of the famous Gettysburg Battleground. You’ll see 400 cannons in battle position. This was the largest battle ever fought on our own soil and it was here that Lincoln gave his soul-stirring address. Day 6: After a scenic morning drive, we’ll be in the “Big Apple”, New York City. We will have a NY guide show us the Manhattan area. We will spend two nights at the same motel. Day 7: This morning our guide will take us to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Ellis Island was opened in 1892 for immigrants coming into the United States and closed in 1954. Ellis Island was abandoned until 1964. Restoration was completed in August of 1990. The $156 million restoration is the largest ever undertaken in the U.S. We’ll see the New York Harbor, the finest harbor in the world. Day 8: This morning we’re off for Philadelphia. Our tour of this historic city will include Independence Square with the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. We will spend the night near Washington, D.C. Day 9, 10, & 11: Today we’ll tour Washington, D.C. For the next three days we will see many sites of our nation’s capital. We drive by the famous 555 foot Washington Monument, Washington’s tallest structure. We’ll drive down “Embassy Row” where many foreign embassies are located. We’ll have a tour of George Washington’s home, Mt. Vernon. The estate has been wonderfully restored with many of Washington’s personal possessions on display. The White House, which is on 18 acres of parkland, is the oldest structure in Washington. At the Arlington National Cemetery, you’ll see the graves of John and Robert Kennedy, the tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Eternal Flame. You’ll also see the changing of the guard. We’ll visit a number of buildings at the Smithsonian Institute. The National Air and Space Museum will be one. We’ll spend three nights in the Washington D.C. area. In the afternoon of the third day, we will visit Thomas Jefferson’s magnificent estate, Monticello. Day 12: This morning we will visit the “Natural Bridge”. The bridge is one of the country’s Natural Wonders. The bridge is an impossible geological structure 215 feet high. We will spend the night in Lexington. Day 13: We continue our travels west with a stop at the famous St. Louis Arch. The Gateway Arch, as it is called, is an inverted curve of gleaming stainless steel, soaring 630 feet. The memorial is 75 feet higher than the Washington Monument. Day 14: Today’s our last day. As we’re traveling home, we’ll reminisce about the many historic sites we were able to enjoy with friends. | ||
