Today we fly into the Boston area to begin our new autumn tour in New England. This tour captures the region’s natural splendor of the Fall foliage season. We will travel from the seaside beauty of Cape Cod and Provincetown (the end of the Cape) to the island tour of Martha’s Vineyard. You will see so much in just 9 days including the glory of Fall in the White Mountains.
Enjoy breathtaking scenery as we head northwest through the Green Mountain area of Vermont on our way to the Burlington area. This region of winding country roads, quaint town squares and colorful foliage will continue to amaze you as we travel through Vermont. Also included today will be the Essex Steam Train and Riverboat, with breathtaking views en route.
Departing the Burlington area, we’ll journey southeast through the rolling Green Mountains to the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Today should be a great day for viewing nature’s kaleidoscope of natural color. We’ll be in Old Orchard Beach, Maine for 2 nights at an ocean-front motel.
After breakfast and time for a walk along the beach, we head for Kennebunkport. The Kennebunkport Beach is one of Maine’s most popular coastal resort areas. We’ll drive by the former President George Bush’s summer home and then we’ll have time for browsing and shopping in Dock Square in Kennebunkport.
Continuing on this morning, we’ll travel on to Boston to enjoy a city tour. Boston is the capital of Massachusetts and has a rich Colonial history. We’ll see numerous landmarks including the Boston Harbor where the Boston Tea Party took place and many other historic sites. Later on today we visit Plymouth Rock, where the Pilgrims set ashore on December 21, 1620. The next 4 nights we’ll stay between Boston and Cape Cod.
This morning we board a ferry for a cruise to Martha’s Vineyard, “Storybook Island”. While on the Island we see picturesque yacht harbors. We will stop at Edgartown, a fashionable harborside community of narrow streets and stately old homes. We’ll also see Oak Bluffs and beautiful beaches. After a wonderful day on the Island we’ll cruise back to the mainland for night.
Today we’ll travel to “Land’s End” — Provincetown at the end of the Cape. En route we’ll tour through the lovely seaside village of Chatham. As we head for the “tip”, we’ll travel down Old King’s Highway past cranberry bogs, golden salt marshes and beautiful ocean views of Cape Cod Bay. We’ll arrive in Provincetown in time for lunch. You’ll also have time for exploring the quaint streets and shops. We’ll travel back later this afternoon.
We depart this morning for the nearby seaside resort of Newport, Rhode Island, the summer playground of Newport’s elite. We’ll take the famous “Ten Mile Drive” past many homes and exquisite estates. We’ll stop to visit “The Breakers,” a 70 room mansion built in 1895 for Cornelius Vanderbilt. Before our day ends, we’ll take time to browse in the many shops and boutiques near the harbor.
Even though our tour is ending, our memories will continue into the future. We saw the best of New England in a short amount of time. We will be transferred to the airport for our flight home.
